Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley aren’t amused by Cubs, fans
Cincinnati Reds radio broadcasters Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley had some harsh words for Cubs fans Wednesday night. After Adam Dunn of the Reds hit a home run in the eighth inning to make it 11-3 Cubs, the Cubs fans in the right field bleachers appeared to throw Dunn’s home run ball back onto the field (although Brantley claimed it landed on Waveland Avenue), as is customary at Wrigley Field. However, Dunn’s ball wasn’t the only one to make it back onto the playing surface, as several other balls were thrown on the field by fans. This display led to this exchange:
Brennaman: See, this, this is the kind of thing, quite honestly, right now that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose…Far and away, the most obnoxious fans in baseball are those who follow this team right here…You simply root against ‘em. And you know, I’ve said all winter, they talk about this team winning the division, and my comment is that they won’t win it because at the end of the day, they still are the Chicago Cubs. And they will figure out a way to screw this whole thing up.
Brantley: And then they’ll have no one to boo but themselves.
Brennaman: Well, they never blame themselves.
Brantley: They blame that goat.
Brennaman:…that old billy goat.
Brantley: I’ll tell you what, anyone that blame a goat for that long a losin’ (streak), that’s silly.
Brennaman: Think so?
Brantley: I know so.

Happy birthday, Miguel!
On Thursday, Houston Astros infielder Miguel Tejada revealed that he’s actually 33-years-old, not 31-years-old after ESPN reporter Tom Farrey obtained a copy of Tejada’s birth certificate from the Dominican Republic. According to the certificate, Tejada was born on May 25, 1974, which would make him two years older than he claimed to be. The Astro’s list Tejada’s birthday to be May 25, 1976.
“I was a poor kid,” ESPN reported Tejada as saying Thursday night before the Astros took on the Phillies. “I wanted to sign a professional contract, and that was the only way to do it. I didn’t want or mean to do anything wrong. At the time, I was two years older than they thought.
Tejada reportedly told the Oakland A’s he was 19-years-old when he signed with the franchise in 1993 out of the Dominican Republic. ESPN reported that he was actually 17-years-old at that time.
